Central Highlands Community Legal Centre provides free legal advice and information and community legal education for people who live, work or study in the Grampians Region. Their office is based in Ballarat and can assist with information about family law, family violence, fines, credit and debt. A Youth Lawyer is available to see people on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please call to make an appointment.

Conciliation is a specific service for parents who are separates and wish to reach an agreement with an ex-partner about issues such as care and contact of children. Conciliation is designed to allow parents to reach agreements themselves in the best interest of children without the complexity of court proceedings.

Description

The Department of Health & Human Services is a Victorian Government department that plans, funds and delivers community health and housing services in line with the government's vision for making Victoria a stronger, more caring and innovative state. Services include a range of specialist support programs which are available for individuals with disabilities.

Activities

The Office of Housing provides public housing assistance and Bond Assistance. Grampians Youth Justice Unit offers services for youths who have been placed on statutory orders by the Criminal division of the Children’s Court and for those exiting Youth Justice. Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria - Ballarat

Description

The Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria (DSCV) is a service provided by the Department of Justice and Regulation. It provides free and confidential dispute resolution services. The DSCV can help you resolve a wide range of disputes without having to resort to taking legal action.

Activities

DSCV can help resolve common neighbourhood disputes; disputes about anti-social behaviour including bullying; workplace disputes; disputes within schools; disputes within committees and clubs. The DSCV offer practical strategies, mediation services, education programs and conflict resolution workshops. The DSCV can arrange an interpreter if required and can accommodate people with disabilities and those from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Description

Gives free information and support to help people recover from the effects of crimes and guide them through the legal process. Victims of Crime can refer to appropriate services in Ballarat. Interpreters are available on request. Permission to access services for under 18 year olds may require parental/guardian consent.
